Welcome to the Barter Faire Online Community! This site is created and maintained for (and by) the barter faire community of the pacific northwest. I hope you will check out the forum and say hello. There is a new blog as well for your reading pleasure! Please help keep this site updated by sending dates, directions, and information about upcoming barter faires, trade circles, gatherings, and similar events to Megan at megan@barterfaire.org so I can post it here! I am always willing to answer questions to the best of my ability, but please keep in mind that I don't organize these events, I just run the site and attend & volunteer at some events.

Barter Faires, Gatherings, Festivals & Other Events – 2012

Following is a list of barter faires, rainbow gatherings, music festivals, and related events in the Pacific/Inland Northwest and Northern California. This information comes from the barter faire family and is subject to change. Thanks to everyone who sends dates and helps keep the site current! MAY

  • May 5: Worldwide Marijuana March in Spokane, WA
    We will gather on the corner of QUEEN & DIVISION @ FRANKLIN PARK. There we will stand along the street allowing all of Spokane to see our love and support for our beliefs. Our goal is also to show that YOU DON'T HAVE TO SMOKE IT TO SUPPORT IT. This year we will have a massive drum circle during and after the March. Anyone who has a drum or wants to drum is encouraged to come. Bring ANY acoustic instrument you have to make it a wonderful jam session. WE WILL JAM AND OUR MESSAGE AND DRUMS WILL BE HEARD!   • May 11 – 13: Mother's Day Barter Faire at Flowery Trail Road in Usk, WA
    Flowery Trail Barter Faire Family Presents a Mother's Day family barter faire. $10 per person. The site is on Flowery Trails Road, about 7 miles below 49 Degrees North ski resort. Pack it in, pack it out. For more information, please contact Flowery Leader on Facebook.
  • May 17 – 21: Symbiosis Gathering: Pyramid Eclipse in Pyramid Lake, NV
    Symbiosis intends to facilitate peak experiences through a synaesthesia of art, music, transformational learning, and sustainable living integrated into an unparalleled extravaganza of fun beneath the starry skies.   • May 18 – 20: Joshua Tree Music Festival in Joshua Tree, CA
    The Joshua Tree festivals are produced by a family of friends and funsters convinced that music is the soul of life, and that art enriches and saves lives.   • May 24 – 28: Lightning in a Bottle in Silverado, CA

  • May 25 – 28: Sasquatch! Music Festival at The Gorge in George, WA

  • May 25 – 28: Northwest Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center in Seattle, WA
    There's no shortage of things to see and do at the Northwest Folklife Festival. While we have tons of great programming, there are also some exciting attractions waiting for you in between shows. For more information, see NWFolklifeFestival.org.

JUNE

  • May 31 – June 3: FireDrums in the Sierra foothills (location TBA) 60 miles East of Sacramento, CA
    FireDrums is the US's biggest spinning arts gathering. The event that brings together flow artists from around the world with the mission of uniting the cultures of fire dancing, fire performance arts, and flow arts. More information available at FireDrums.org.
  • June 8 – 9: Conscious Culture Festival in Tonasket, WA
    A one of a kind music festival and cultural event featuring Reggae, Rock, Folk, Electronic, World music and beyond! Held at the Okanogan Family Faire (Tonasket barter faire) site near Tonasket, WA. Tickets include cammping.   • June 16 – 17: Spring Green Organic Living Fair in Tonasket, WA
    We are Bringing you the opportunity to learn about living off-grid and organic living. We realize people want to live green, and this fair will help you go in the right direction with vendors to show you how. We will have live music and performers and even a fashion show all made of everyday trash we throw away. This event will be held at Music at the View in Tonasket, WA.   • June 17 – 19: Esthetic Evolution Music & Art Festival at Twin Springs Resort near Boise, ID
    Esthetic Evolution is a community based, participant-driven music and art festival centered around progressive thinking and self expression. The festival is located at the breathtaking Twin Springs Resort, nestled in the Central Idaho Mountains about an hour outside of Boise. Esthetic features a weekend of live electronic music, performance art, speakers and workshops, and we encourage attendees to contribute to the collective experience by any means of their imagination. This year's theme, "Infinity," focuses on the vastness of time and space, and the ever-expanding realm of possibility it creates for all of our lives.   • June 21 – 24: Love Your Mother Earth Festival near Missoula, MT
    The 6th installment of the Love Your Mother Earth Festival will be held at Ryan Creek Meadows. The celebration will begin on the summer solstice and the revelry will last all weekend. We've been working hard to bring a killer line-up, amazing workshops, and art installations that will blow your mind and touch your soul.   • June 22 – 24: Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in Boonville, CA
    This 3-day summer music and camping festival features the best in reggae and world music. The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is dedicated to nurturing a world family peacefully united in celebration of the universal spirit of music.   • June 22 – 25: Movement Play Micro-Festival near Willits, CA
    Movement Play events are gatherings that connect people with inspiration to move and educate their bodies, while opening their hearts and minds.   • June 22 – 24: 12th Annual Fairy & Human Relations Congress near Twisp, WA
    The Fairy & Human Relations Congress is an event that attracts about 300 people held in the north central Cascades in Washington State. Our mission is to increase communication and co-creation between humans and nature. Directions and information available at FairyCongress.com
  • June 22 – 24: Hope Mountain Barter Faire in Cave Junction, OR.
    The annual Hope Mountain Barter Faire is a benefit for the non-profit, cooperative Dome School. Our Faire is culturally expressive, brimming with creativity, exchange and fun. JULY

  • June 29 – July 2: Enchanted Forest in Navarro, Mendocino County, CA
    We invite you to join us for a new flavor of conscious community gathering. In the embrace of a majestic redwood forest we celebrate our tribal culture through dance, art, nature and the unyielding gift of the human spirit. Together we set the container to nurture the seed of our infinite potential as individuals and as community. We intend to bring all the quality and offerings that you will find at any big festival this year and present it an intimate setting of only 600 people.   • July 1 – 7: National Rainbow Family Gathering, somewhere in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia or New Hampshire.
    Welcome home! Everyone with a belly button is welcome at the US National Rainbow Family of Living Light Gathering in Washington state. Every summer since 1972, the Annual Rainbow Gatherings have attracted tens of thousands of people to a different United States National Forest. There a temporary city is created in the wilderness. These Rainbow Gatherings culminate with an elaborate and graceful silent prayer for World Peace on the Fourth of July. More info will be posted as the gathering approaches, or see welcomehere.org.
  • July 5 – 8: High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy, CA

  • July 13 – 15: Oregon Country Fair in Veneta, OR.
    Celebrate with us and delight in our world class entertainment, hand-made crafts, delectable foods, educational displays and magical surprises at every turn of the path. We invite you to join us in our wooded setting, 13 miles west of Eugene near Veneta, Oregon for an unforgettable adventure.   • July 20 – 22: Emerald Empire Hempfest at Maurie Jacobs Park in Eugene, OR

  • July 20 – 22: Photosynthesis 5.0 at Hobuck Beach Resort, Neah Bay, WA

  • July 21 – 22: Reggae on the River at Benbow Lake Rec. Area, Garberville, CA
    On Saturday and Sunday, July 21 & 22, 2012 the Mateel Community Center proudly presents the 28th Annual Reggae On The River festival at Benbow Lake Recreation Area in Humboldt County, California. An internationally renowned celebration of the best in reggae and world music, the 2012 Reggae on the River festival will feature nearly 30 classic and cutting edge reggae and world music artists on two stages, along with 80+ vendors, a lively kid zone, and a weekend full of fun on the banks of the majestic Eel River.   • August 3 – 5: Pickathon Indie Roots Music Festival at Pendarvis Farm, OR

  • August 3 – 5: The Gaia Festival at Black Oak Ranch, Laytonville, CA
    Come to the legendary Black Oak Ranch (Wavy Gravy's Hog Farm) in beautiful Mendocino county, Northern California for 5 stages of live music, arts & crafts, hands on workshops, visionary presenters, local and organic cuisine, yoga and other activities at The Gaia Festival.   • August 10 – 13: Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo, British Columbia, Canada
    Shambhala is held annually in early August on the pristine Salmo River Ranch, and boasts 6 uniquely themed stages. We aim to bring you the best in up & coming electronic music talent from around the globe every summer, along with well-known favourites. Shambhala is a celebration of music, art and life.   • August 9 – 12: Northwest String Summit at Horning's Hideout, North Plains, OR

  • August 17 – 19: Seattle Hempfest in Seattle's waterfront parks
    Come to the biggest hemp rally in the Northwest! Seattle Hempfest features five stages of world-class music, and is the largest gathering of speakers on Hemp and Marijuana policy reform in the World !It's open to the public on Friday from 12 noon to 8 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm. Admission to Seattle Hempfest is free. The event spans three Seattle waterfront parks: Centennial Park, formerly Elliott Bay Park (North Entrance), Myrtle Edwards Park, and Olympic Sculpture Park (South Entrance). SEPTEMBER

  • August 29 – September 5: Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert, NV
    Every year, tens of thousands of participants gather to create Black Rock City in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, dedicated to self-expression, self-reliance, and art as the center of community. They leave one week later, having left no trace. 2012's art theme is "Fertility 2.0". Burning Man is an unforgettable and completely unique experience.   • September 8 & 9: Santa Barter Faire near Santa, Northern Idaho
    Santa is one of the only free faires, and a great family-friendly experience in a beautiful place! Don't forget to bring something for the potluck! Directions: The site is 75 miles S.E. of Coeur D' Alene ID, 85 miles S.E. of Spokane WA, and 60 miles N.E. of Moscow ID. There will be signs from St. Maries and the turnoff will be well marked. This is a free event. There is no entry cost for vendors or campers, but donations are greatly appreciated and make this faire possible! For more information, see the page on Facebook.
  • September 13 – 16: Pacific Fire Gathering on the Oregon Coast
    Pacific Fire is a NorthWest regional Flow Arts gathering. Our focus is fire-dancing: poi, staff, hoops, fans, whips, object manipulation, or anything that gets you to a state of flow! It takes place at a picturesque camp in the forest along the Oregon coast. Come focus on your art and leave the distractions of the busy world behind.   • September 30: Idaho H.O.P.E. Fest in Boise, Idaho
    Boise's Hemp Fest, the Idaho H.O.P.E. (Hemp Offers People Everything) Fest will be held in Ann Morrison Park, Boise, Idaho Saturday September 30. For more information, visit IdahoHempFest.com.

OCTOBER

  • October 12 – 14: Okanogan Family Faire near Tonasket, WA
    The date for the 2012 Okanogan Family Barter Faire has been set for the 2nd weekend of October. The gate opens at noon Thursday for Vendors to setup. The gate opens for campers and other Faire attendees at 8am Friday. No dogs, drugs, or alcohol are allowed at this family-friendly event.     Directions (from West - Wenatchee): Head North from Wenatchee on Highway 97 for about 2 hours to Tonasket. Turn right at the flags onto Highway 20 towards Republic and proceed about 13 miles. Take a Left on Cayuse Mountain Road (there will be signs) and proceed up the road to the faire.
    Directions (from East - Spokane): Take Highway 2 West from Spkane to Grand Coulee, then Omak. From Omak take Highway 97 North for 23 miles to Tonasket.

RECURRING EVENTS

  • Community Roots Market in Spokane, WA
    Please join us every Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm at Fresh Abundance, located at 2015 N. Division, for the Community Roots Market. There is always farm fresh organic produce, meats, dairy, and crafters. For more information or to become a vendor, please call Brightspirit at 509-435-5210.
  • Barter By The Bay Community Barter Fair in Waldport, OR
    We are starting up a new barter fair on the central Oregon Coast: Barter By The Bay Community Barter Fair. Trade what you have (or can do) for what you want/need: crafts, goods of all kinds, produce, services, tools, etc. This will be held the last Saturday of every month beginning September 26, 2009. Hours will be from 10 AM–4 PM. Held in the vacant lot by The Flounder, right on Hwy 101 in Waldport, Oregon – look for the banner. Per space, a $5 cash or canned food donation for Lincoln County Food Share or the Animal Shelter is requested. E-mail Barter by the Bay for more information.
